Automated Features You Might Need for Your Home's Garage

My name is Richard. I own a large commercial business which is located in Melbourne, Australia. Last year, I decided I needed to revamp the look of my business so I shut everything down for 8 weeks and called in a team of contractors. The contractors replaced the plumbing and installed a new electrical system. I also asked them to carry out some work on the roof. I was really impressed with how quickly they completed the work so I could reopen my business to the public. I decided to start this blog so I could offer advice to other business owners.

The condition of your home's garage, and especially its door, is very important for ensuring the security of everything you keep in that space, including your car, sporting goods, bikes, and the like. However, you might find that you often forget to close the garage door after you leave in the morning, or need to keep it open for the kids during the day, which can then mean easy access for a thief. To enhance the security of your home's garage door and make it easier to use overall, note some automated features you might add to the garage opener, the door and even to the garage itself.

Notifications

An app on your smartphone or tablet that allows you to open or close the garage door when you're on the road might be somewhat commonplace. However, you might upgrade that app to include a feature that notifies you when the garage door has been opened. This can alert you to a potential intruder, or let you know that the kids are home safe, or that an expected contractor has arrived on your property. This also allows you to check and ensure that the garage is closed behind your kids or when the contractor is done working! The app can also alert you if the garage door has been left open for a certain amount of time, so you know to close it if you've forgotten to do this.

Security cameras

Consider installing an actual security camera inside the garage so it can't be damaged or disarmed by potential intruders. As you may not need to record hours and hours of an empty garage, have the camera connected to a motion detector, to engage the camera when the door opens or when movement is sensed inside the garage. The camera can also be connected to a recording device and to a Wi-Fi connection, so you can log onto a certain internet site and see what the camera is capturing in real time. You can then alert authorities if necessary, and have a recording of any intruders.

Alarms

You can have the security cameras and motion detectors, mentioned above, connected to an alarm, or opt for a remote alarm on your key fob that you can sound at the push of a button. This can keep you safe if you drive into the garage and then notice someone inside; sounding the alarm can scare off the person and alert your neighbours that you need assistance.
