5 Reasons to Add a Suspended Ceiling to Your Shop

My name is Richard. I own a large commercial business which is located in Melbourne, Australia. Last year, I decided I needed to revamp the look of my business so I shut everything down for 8 weeks and called in a team of contractors. The contractors replaced the plumbing and installed a new electrical system. I also asked them to carry out some work on the roof. I was really impressed with how quickly they completed the work so I could reopen my business to the public. I decided to start this blog so I could offer advice to other business owners.

There's so much to consider when you're outfitting a shop with a shop fitter, you might not think about what's above your head. Yes, the ceiling. It's an area people commonly forget to consider, but it makes a real difference. One of the best paths to go down is fitting a suspended ceiling, and here are just five reasons why.

1. Tidier Appearance

As a rule, commercial buildings have more piping, electrical lines, and ductwork running across their ceilings than residential ones. Some shops can make that look work, but it's generally simpler to install a suspended ceiling just below the main ceiling to cover them up. You'll have a clean, flat ceiling that looks more in-keeping with your store.

2. Excellent Acoustic Control

When people are outfitting their shops, they often pay close attention to how the area is going to look and completely forget to think about how it will sound, and sound does matter when you're trying to create a certain atmosphere. A suspended ceiling is fantastic in settings where your shop is below another floor – it provides an added layer of sound insulation between floors. It's also good if you want to control the sound in your own shop – sound absorbing tiles can be used to keep things relatively quiet even when lots of people are shopping at once.

3. Easy Maintenance

A traditional plaster ceiling looks great, but repair work is very hard to carry out. After all, you'll need to take apart a section just to reach hidden pipes and electric. That work takes some time, which could mean closing off all or part of your shop for a very inconvenient length of time. It's not an issue you'll worry about with a suspended ceiling. Everything that might need to be repaired can be accessed simply by removing a couple of panels.

4. Added Insulation

If you lower the height of your shop's ceiling, you'll find it easier to heat. That's great if you're responsible for the bills since using less energy will help you save each month. Even if you don't pay them yourself, it's always going to be advantageous to be able to keep your store warm and cosy. Nobody likes shopping somewhere cold.

5. Customisable Style

Finally, suspended ceilings allow very fine control over style. Pure white is perfect for brightening up your store because such panels are highly reflective – white also gives the illusion of added space. You'll also be able to choose between different colours and shades, and suspended ceiling tiles are available in multiple materials, including fibre, wood and plastic.
